Let’s get ready for The Cheltenham Roar!!
First up, a well-regarded handicap entry from legendary trainer Mick Channon!
HOLD THE NOTE: Day One, The Northern Trust Company Novices' Handicap Chase, 1610 Cheltenham
This 6 year old trained by Mick Channon comes into the reckoning of this competitive handicap novice chase on Day One based on a very impressive second in a Grade 2 listed novice event at Warwick last time out. He’s a very consistent type, never out of the first four and looks to be improving all the time.
Solid value at 8/1 (Betfair, Paddy Power and Betfred, NRNB and 1/5 odds for places 1-5!)
MINELLA INDO: Day Two, The RSA Insurance Novices' Chase, 1410 Cheltenham
Ran an absolute blinder in last year’s Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at The Cheltenham Festival to win at massive odds of 50/1. Trainer Henry De Bromhead brings a strong team to The Cheltenham Festival this year and Minella Indo is one of his best chances of the week.
He’s had two runs this season including an 8 length defeat to Laurina although that was over 2 and a half miles which is not his optimum distance.
He subsequently won a beginner chase at Navan , beating Captain CJ who went on to win a Grade 2 so the form has worked out well.
Plenty of positive vibes about this horse and Cheltenham Festival winning form is always a plus.
4/1 best with Unibet (NRNB).
TRONADOR: Day Two, The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, 1650 Cheltenham
This former flat horse now trained by Gordon Elliott has adapted well to hurdles this season. He got off the mark in a novice hurdle event at Thurles in January and responded to that with a creditable third in a listed event at Navan.
He’s got a little bit to learn but comes into the juvenile handicap hurdle event very well handicapped and expected to improve.
10/1 with Betfred, each way places 1-5 and NRNB!
CLAN DES OBEAUX, Day Four, The Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup, 1530 Cheltenham
We think Paul Nicholls has got the tactics on this dual King George winner absolutely spot on this season. His run in the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup last year was largely criticised for making him run too close to the pace.
Subsequently, he failed to stay up the hill. However, Paul Nicholls put the poor run down the horse’s slight over exertions in making him run in The King George and then in the Ascot Betfair Denman Chase over 2m 7 furlongs, a race he now feels in hindsight was too close to The Cheltenham Festival.
Now Clan Des Obeaux goes into The Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup straight from a second King George victory. The theory is that his stamina will be now better suited to the extra 2 furlongs and uphill finish with a long break since that Kempton win.
However, Clan Des Obeaux deserves respect simply because of that sensational King George win albeit over a well below par Cyrname and Lostintranslation. 15/2 available with William Hill but will full ante post rules.
