Just 2 days to go now!
If you are still not sure what to bet on at this late stage, we have picked out five of the best bets of the Cheltenham Festival meeting, all at various odds.
One banker, one well priced third favourite, one outsider, a well “talked up” horse from a very respectable stable and a horse that will appreciate a last-minute change in the going if it goes from soft to good.
Five bets that will make a lucrative Cheltenham Festival Best Bets Accumulator! We also guide you to the best odds and best Cheltenham offers from our variety of partner firms so that you are getting the best deal pricewise.
LEG 1: HELL RED, The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, Tuesday March 16th
This Paul Nicholls juvenile import from France found himself being talked about as a potential Triumph Hurdle horse last autumn when he absolutely bolted up by 12 lengths in a listed juvenile hurdle race at Chepstow.
Unfortunately, he has not been able to replicate this decent form since. However, the trainer has been maintaining that he needs decent ground to perform to his best and having run all season in soft to heavy, he may get the ground he needs at The Festival with some dry days forecast right before.
Could be a value outsider each way bet at 20/1 best with bet365 (Best Odds Guaranteed and NRNB), Betfred (NRNB, paying 5 places), William Hill (Ante post rules apply, paying 5 places).
LEG 2: BRAVEMANSGAME, The Ballymore Novices Hurdle, Wednesday March 17th
This second Paul Nicholls entry represents the best chance of his Ditcheat team getting a winner during the week, according to the trainer. It is easy to see why. He has been improving with every run which has now included 3 wins, beating his rivals by a combined total of nearly 30 lengths.
He started the season with a very close second to Soaring Glory: that form has worked out very well indeed as Soaring Glory went on to win the highly prestigious Betfair Hurdle handicap last month and now looks the nearest danger to Appreciate It in the Supreme Novices.
It is slightly bewildering to see that he is not favourite for the Ballymore, so this entry warrants best bet status with odds available at 7/2 (Bet Victor, NRNB).
LEG 3: MONKFISH, The Brown Advisory Novices Chase, Wednesday 17th March
Most people’s idea of a nap for the week. Last year’s Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle winner has gone from strength to strength, registering three effortless victories for Willie Mullins and jockey Paul Townend as a novice chaser and is now unbeaten in 6 runs.
The long-term target for this S Ricci owned 7-year-old is The Cheltenham Gold Cup but, in the meantime, he is set to cause major mischief for the bookmakers on Day 2 where is a warm order at 8/13 (Bet Victor). Proper banker material.
LEG 4: IMPERIAL AURA, The Ryanair Chase, Thursday 18th March
The Ryanair Chase has a very open feel to it this year and this Kim Bailey entry warrants serious respect for several reasons. Firstly, he is a Festival winner having won the Northern Trust Company Novices' Handicap last year.
Secondly, Imperial Aura has demonstrated some great form this season with two decent wins and probably would have had the beating of the highly talented Master Tommytucker last time out at Ascot had he not unseated David Bass. Best odds of 13/2 (bet365 NRNB)
LEG 5: UMBRIGADO, The Paddy Power Plate, Wednesday 17th March
This progressive David Pipe chaser has been a model of consistency this season and is clearly on the upgrade. His latest win in the Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury was impressive especially the way he stayed on in the closing stages.
He gets a 5ib raise for that win, but I am not sure the handicapper has got a grip on him yet. Will go close at decent odds of 12/1 with William Hill (5 places paid, full ante post rules) and Bet Victor (NRNB).
