Tuesday 18th June

The opening day features several Group 1 races along with some competitive handicaps. We have selected the opening race The Queen Anne Stakes to focus on.

Leg 1: The Queen Anne Stakes, 1430 Ascot

The market is led by the Gosden trained Inspiral, although he has been easy to back in recent days. This is probably attributed to his poor showing in the recent Lockinge Stakes at Newbury where he finished 13 lengths behind the eventual winner Audience.

He probably needed the run but holds no appeal at 3/1 best (William Hill). Roger Varian has an excellent recent record at the Royal meeting, having saddled seven winners in the last three years including four winners at the 2020 meeting.

He trains Charyn who stayed on well in the Lockinge to finish second behind Audience. He holds plenty of scope for improvement and should be primed for this more competitive event. 4/1 best with William Hill.

SELECTION: CHARYN 4/1 (WILLIAM HILL)

Wednesday 19th June

We have selected the Prince Of Wales Stakes for our second selection of the week.

Leg 2: The Prince Of Wales Stakes, 1625 Ascot

Last year’s Derby winner Auguste Rodin leads the market (7/4 Bet365) but needs to make up three lengths on White Birch’s win over Auguste in the recently held Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh over one miles and 2 furlongs.

The Aiden O’Brien trained horse did come out of the stalls slowly however and will be a better horse on the day. Nevertheless, White Birch looks a special proposition with scope for further improvement. Best odds 5/2 with Bet365 and has been well backed in the last few days.

SELECTION: WHITE BIRCH 5/2 (BET365)

Thursday 20th June

This day sees the big stayer’s championship race, The Ascot Gold Cup. It is Mullins vs O’Brien!

Leg 3: The Ascot Gold Cup, 1625 Ascot

Taking on the mighty Kyprios at odds on (4/5 Bet365, Betfred) is a risky proposition. However, the 2022 winner of this race has run a couple of times since winning on Champions Day last October: efficient performances at best.

It is questionable whether Kyprios is back to his best. Therefore, a gamble on the Willie Mullins trained Vauban is worth a punt here. He won a decent handicap at this meeting last year and the distance should not be a bother. Fair value at 7/1 best with Bet365.

SELECTION: VAUBAN 7/1 (BET365)

Friday 21st June

The penultimate day of the meeting features a host of group and handicap action including The Commonwealth Cup which takes in our fourth and final selection of the week. We are taking on the front two in the betting!

Leg 4: The Commonwealth Cup, 1505 Ascot

Betting wise, this looks to be an open contest with joint favourites in the shape of Inisherin and Vandeek. However, we like the look of the Karl Burke trained Elite Status who bounced back to form encouragingly at Newbury in a listed race last month.

Elite Status had indifferent form as a two-year-old but seems to have found a new lease of life this season. He is expected to improve on this debut run as a three-year-old. Best odds of 7/1 with William Hill, Betfred and Boylesports.

SELECTION: ELITE STATUS 7/1 (WILLIAM HILL, BETFRED, BOYLESPORTS)
