Sunday 3rd March: Kick off - 16:00
This Sunday we have one of the most pivotal matches this season, the north London Derby between Tottenham and Arsenal. This game could decide who clinches that valuable fourth position this season, but more importantly establishes the bragging rights between Spurs and Gunners fans for the rest of the season. Arsenal are experiencing a difficult period as the media have been incessantly telling us all for weeks now, whilst Tottenham have moved to change their name to Garetham Hotbale as a result of the winger’s ridiculous form in recent games. The last few times these sides have met they’ve been high scoring clashes where tempers have flared, now there’s more on the line than ever before any self-respecting football fan will have their eyes glued on this fixture.
The Outcome
This is a tough one, whilst both teams are in very different runs of form, statistics rarely count for much in derbies. Either way I think that after Arsenal’s victories in the last couple of ties Tottenham are due a Derby win, and they’re at home. It’s definitely worth having a punt with BetVictor who have Spurs at 11/8 to win and a £25 free bet when you sign up, but if you fancy the two rivals to reach a deadlock you can find the best price for a draw with Skybet at 5/2.Although Spurs are the safe bet, Arsenal are due to turn around their form and have won the last couple of encounters between the two, you can find great odds with Betfred who have the Gunners priced at 12/5. I think that overall, with an Arsenal defence that’s leakier than the English border with Scotland, and with Spurs armed with a weapons-grade Gareth Bale it’s hard to justify betting against Spurs at home.
Too many goals to deal with
Anyone who bets low on goals here is a fool, as I said, the Gunner’s defence resemble that of an under six side during training and fuelled on blue smarties, and Arsenal have a strange ability to nick one against the run of play. The goals will be flying in. Blue Square have over 2.5 goals priced at 4/6 and when you consider that both Bale, Walcott and Cazorla are on the pitch, it seems rude not to! If you feel like having a flutter on something a little more precise, Coral have Tottenham as 28/1 to spank Arsenal 3-0 which is certainly not out of the question.
We know that Bale is in absurd form, the flying Welshman is playing with the confidence only found in a man who has been compared to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. We know he’s going to find the net so we’re saying at 5/4 to score at any time with William Hill, you can’t say no. On the other side of the same coin you can find even better odds on Arsenal’s own speed merchant Theo Walcott to score at any time with Skybet at 11/4.
Going out on a Limb
If you fancy throwing a bit of a wildcard you can get great odds with Ladbrokes for Adebayor to bag a hat-trick against his old club at 40-1, he’s sure to be itching to net a few against the Gunners after seeing red in the last derby. Alternatively if you’re not keen on the Togolese striker smashing three past Szczesny, you can grab 12/1 odds on Lewis Holtby stealing the last goal for Spurs with Coral. The impressive young German is due a goal and I can see him shouldering the burden for Bale and nicking one when it matters for Spurs.
