24th June - 7th July 2013
It's that time of year again, when strawberries and cream are part of the staple diet and Pimms becomes more valuable than water. It is of course the start of Wimbledon, and the beginning of a massive two weeks of tennis. We've trawled the bookies to find YOU the best prices on the main contenders in the Men's Singles and Women's Singles, and we will let you know who we think is the one to stick your money on so you can rake in the profit on the 7th of July. So without further ado, here is your preview:
Men's Singles
Andy Murray
The Scot is entering into this Wimbledon tournament with his greatest chance ever to succeed at SW19. After triumphing at Wimbledon in the Olympics against Roger Federer and winning his first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year, the onus is on Murray to take it one step further and nail that elusive Wimbledon trophy.
Murray is our favourite given the tennis he has played recently (and because we've got a dose of Murray-mania), and is a very nicely-priced 3/1 with Betfred to win his first Wimbledon title. Betfair are running a special on players to reach the final and Murray is 13/8 with them to get there. Additionally, they are also offering a tasty 24/11 on there being a first-time winner this year. And if it isn't Murray, who else is it going to be?
Roger Federer
The (relatively) old dog is back to grace the Wimbledon courts again, and earn an unprecedented eighth win. The Swiss is the third favourite at the bookies at the moment (after Nadal's shock exit in the first round) and can be found best-priced at 5/1 with Coral and BetVictor. To reach the final, Nadal is 13/8 with Betfair.
Novak Djokovic
The bookies favourite, the hefty Serb is back to reclaim his title after Federer took it from him last year. Djokovic is the only player to be odds-on to reach the final, at 7/18 with Betfair. To win the whole tournament he is slightly longer: best-priced at 11/10 with a variety of bookies including SkyBet, Ladbrokes, Coral, and William Hill.
Jo Wilfried-Tsonga
Fourth-favourite Tsonga is the outsider hoping to crash the party of the Big-Three this year, and this is reflected in his odds: he is 33/1 with Stan James to spring a surprise and win Wimbledon this year. Betfair have the Frenchman at 113/17 to reach the final.
Women's Singles
Serena Williams
Unsurprisingly, the American is odds-on favourite with the bookies (and us) to retain the title she won for the fifth time last year. With Williams playing her best tennis in the run up to this tournament, we can't really see a credible challenger to knock her from her perch (but we're still hoping you can do it, Laura Robson) and so she is our tip for the Women's singles.
Williams is best-priced at 4/9 with SkyBet to win the tournament this year. Betfair have her at even shorter odds to reach the final: she is a ridiculous 2/11 to be contesting the final on the 6th July.
Maria Sharapova
Second favourite Sharapova is the likely opponent that Williams will face in the final: she is 23/13 with Betfair to make it that far this year. If you fancy that Sharapova might have what it takes this year, she is 5/1 with Paddy Power to win the whole thing.
Victoria Azarenka
Belarussian Azarenka goes into this year's tournament as the third favourite: she is 10/1 with Betfred and Ladbrokes to best the rest and take the trophy home. If you think she might get close, but not close enough, she is 19/10 to reach the final.
Laura Robson
In the absence of any other credible challengers, why not Robson? At 200/1 with Stan James, she may not represent good value... but it's Wimbledon and we're England! We've got to have a bit of unlikely optimism coming from somewhere haven't we?
