(2.5 minute read)

The waiting is finally over! No more talking, no more opinions, no more previews. It’s the real thing. It’s the horses that do the talking now: the greatest show on turf for 2025 has arrived!

The bookmakers are fearing a massive accumulator bomb as punters are getting behind big race favourites Kopek Des Bordes, Majborough and Constitution Hill.

The feature race today is of course The Champion Hurdle. The formidable Constitution Hill hopes to begin a potentially fantastic week for Nicky Henderson and the Seven Barrows team as their superstar bids to regain his crown after missing last season’s renewal through injury. But the team face a big danger in the shape of Brighterdaysahead. Game on!

Race Previews

1320 Cheltenham: The Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Renamed after the recent tragic passing of jockey Michael O’Sullivan, the opening race will be as always greeted by the mighty Cheltenham roar which heralds the start of Cheltenham Festival 2025!

kopekdesbordes_williemullins_bestbets_Cheltenhamfestival2025.jpg
Kopek Des Bordes looks to be another Willie Mullins leviathan in the making and leads the market at very short odds. Romeo Coolio and Salvator Mundi could be big dangers.

SELECTION: KOPEK DES BORDES WIN Evens (1/1) with William Hill

1400 Cheltenham: The My Pension Expert Arkle Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)

Majborough has been all the rage since the unfortunate withdrawal of long time antepost favourite Sir Gino.

majborough_arkle_cheltenhamfestival2025.jpg
L’Eau du Sud from the Skeltons yard will offer some stiff opposition whilst the Nicky Henderson trained Jango Baie has an each way chance.

SELECTION: MAJBOROUGH WIN 4/7 Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports

1440 Cheltenham: The Ultima Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap)

The first big handicap of the week and the real start of the betting frenzy! This has always been an excellent race for the British trainers: the Irish have not registered a win since 2006 and two wins since 1967. It is not surprise then that the British trainers are dominating the market. Crebilly looks to have a great chance after finishing second last years and on 2ib more favourable terms.

SELECTION: CREBILLY EACH WAY 9/1 with Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports

1520 Cheltenham: The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle Race (Grade 1)

Lossiemouth leads the market for this mares championship Grade 1 and should take all the beating if she reproduces the form that helped her win last year’s renewal. However, she has not had the ideal season with defeat by Constitution Hill and a fall in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

SELECTION: LOSSIEMOUTH WIN 4/6 Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports

1600 Cheltenham: The Unibet Champion Hurdle (Grade 1)

The feature race of the day. The mighty Constitution Hill is looking to banish the memory of last year’s issues by regaining the title he won back in 2023.

But it will not be easy with a dangerous rival in the shape of Brighterdaysahead and her 7ib mares weight allowance. Will it make a difference? Check out our special preview of this championship race.

SELECTION: CONSTITUTION HILL WIN 8/13 Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports
