Welcome to Day 4 of Cheltenham Festival 2024! This is the day we’ve all been waiting for. It’s Gold Cup Day!
Galopin Des Champs, last year’s winner, looks to be a strong favourite to retain his title but faces a stiff challenge from rival Fastorslow and last year’s runner-up Bravemansgame.

Getting to the course
If you’re lucky enough to be heading to Cheltenham for the live races, please be aware of the following travel information.
Road Closure
In order to try and alleviate some of the antisocial problems reported from previous Festivals, the Evesham Road which links the racecourse to the town, will be shut southbound from 4pm to 8pm after racing, to allow a wider route for pedestrians exiting the track. There will be temporary toilets and stewards marshalling the route.
Coming in from Birmingham New Street Station
Birmingham New Street station will be running a staged queuing system for trains to the Festival so as to avoid passenger congestion on the platform. Please allow plenty of time to allow for delays here. Be aware of rails strikes on Thursday.

Race Previews and Selections
13.30 Cheltenham: The Triumph Hurdle
Long time antepost favourite Sir Gino was sadly pulled out yesterday as the Nicky Henderson Cheltenham shutdown continues.
Willie Mullins trained Majborough shaped up encouragingly in his first run this season finishing close behind race rivals Storm Heart and Kargese at Punchestown last time out. We fancy the JP McManus owned juvenile to improve further and pull through here at 3/1 best with William Hill.
14.10 Cheltenham: The County Hurdle
Very competitive big field handicap hurdle. The classy Pied Piper runs for Gordon Elliott but carries a big weight. He finished second last year so should be in the mix despite the top weight.
An interesting entry is Go Dante who won last weekend’s Imperial Cup at Sandown and will take home a handsome bonus if successful.
However, we’re playing safe and lumping on one of the Mullins’ entries: Bialystok looks unexposed and set to run a big race for the Ricci/Mullins combination.
14.50 Cheltenham: The Albert Barlett Novices Hurdle
Very open renewal of the stayer’s novice championship. Willie Mullins holds three of the first four in the betting including the well backed favourite Readin Tommy Wrong ridden by Paul Townend.
The Harry Fry entry Gidleigh Park ran well over two miles four furlongs at Cheltenham in January, however, with the way the British entries are going, probably best avoided.
Our selection is therefore the favourite Readin Tommy Wrong at best odds 3/1 with William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.
15.30 Cheltenham: THE CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP
The flagship race of the week. Galopin Des Champs goes into this with the Willie Mullins team absolutely decimating proceedings in the winner’s enclosure.
And now with the withdrawal of the chief British hope Shishkin, it is difficult to see where the challenge to last year’s winner is going to come from.
Bravemansgame will need to vastly improve on this year’s form but enters each way calculations based on the way he chased Galopin Des Champs in last year’s renewal.
Plenty of others in the mix including the enigmatic King George winner Hewick, who was going well when falling two out in last year's Gold Cup and Fastorslow who has actually beaten Galopin on two occasions in the last year.
However, our selection is for the Willie Mullins trained superstar to come up trumps again and win a fourth Gold Cup for the all-conquering master of Cheltenham. Best odds of 11/10 with Bet365, Bet Victor and Betfred.
16.10 Cheltenham: The St James Places Hunters Chase
This marathon chase often throws up some big priced winners, none bigger than Premier Magic who came home last year in chaotic conditions to win at a mammoth 66/1.
He runs again but at more modest odds of 13/2 (William Hill).
However, we think there is value and possible improvement, not to mention the 7ibs mares weight allowance from Sine Nomine. Best odds of 16/1 with Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.
